Staying in the Fullness of God
Prayer and Fasting Guide – January 22 to 26, 2024

INTRODUCTION

Note: Information about fasting is included below.

Welcome to our Prayer and Fasting Week at Iglesia Palabra de Fe Sarasota (Word of Faith Church). We are glad you are visiting this page and hope you will decide to pray and fast with us.

The information on this page is designed to unite us together in both the mental and spiritual realms as a church body. Our God created us as spirit beings. We live in a body and have a soul, but we first are spirit. When He created Adam and Eve, they walked with Him in the Garden of Eden. The scriptures talk about them walking together. Imagine that!

Before their disobedience and the fall, they related to God on a spiritual level. But we are told in the Bible that when they sinned, death entered in. This was spiritual death, or separation from God in His perfection. It was impossible for them to be in His perfect presence in their fallen state. This spiritual death was followed by physical (mortal) death, which we now all suffer before we pass from our earthly life into eternity.

In Christ, we will spend eternity with God. Without Christ, those who reject Him will spend eternity separated from Him (1 John 5:12). Thank you, Father, for sending Jesus to save us, and thank you, Lord Jesus, for salvation through your sacrifice! And while we’re at it, thank you Holy Spirit, for coming to live in us, helping us to walk in power and victory in this life! We are so grateful!

STAYING FULL OF GOD

This is our theme for this week. We are basing these devotionals loosely on a book by Andrew Wommack ‘Discover the Keys to Staying Full of God’. It’s a powerful study on how we can seek God’s presence and stay full of Him every day.

Some may find this idea surprising – even shocking – to think that we can be full of God’s presence, but the Apostle Paul encouraged us to be continually full of Him.

Ephesians 5:18

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit

According to Greek scholars, this verse in the original Greek has a continual present verb tense that is better translated ‘be continually filled’ or ‘be being filled’. So, it’s not a one-time thing. It’s an ongoing process. We all could argue that sometimes we feel more full of God, like when we are in a church service, or praying. That’s exactly the point! There are things we can do that keep us more (or less) filled with His presence.

The truth is that we have each been created in the image and likeness of God Himself (Genesis 1-2). The reason Christ Jesus came to earth was to take our place on the cross and give us new life – His Life, the life of God – and make us the righteousness of God in Him. Before He left, He told us we would be receiving ‘The promise of the Father’, the Holy Spirit. He comes to live in us in the very moment of conversion when we confess the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

So now, every born-again son or daughter of God has the Holy Spirit. His purpose is to guide us, teach us, encourage us, warn us, and give us the wisdom of God to live a powerful life. But it’s not all automatic. There’s a process, called renewing the mind (Romans 12:1-2), learning to think and act like Christ. Too often we miss it, and mess things up. It’s never God’s fault, it’s our fault due to our ignorance and immaturity.

WHAT'S IT MEAN TO BE FULL OF GOD

The good news is that we CAN be full of the Holy Spirit and overflowing with His presence! We NEED to be. Otherwise, we stumble through life in our own power and wits, and that’s way less powerful than God’s wisdom and ability.

Scripture tells us that ‘In His presence is fullness of joy’, and a power that manifests in salvation, prosperity, liberation from demonic activities, healings, signs, and wonders. That’s God’s wonderful plan for us. We are designed to be ‘God containers’ and God wants to fill us more and more, as we allow.

We must realize, however, that we have an enemy, Satan, who always tries to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and we are the targets. We have three main enemies: Satan, the world (system), and our own flesh. The world will persecute us for our faith in God, so no surprise there. The flesh is our old carnal nature that fights against the spirit.

Satan attacks us, not because we are so special but rather, because it’s the only way he can hurt God and derail His plans. The world system draws people toward illicit pleasure and sin, and our flesh fights to be satisfied. Satan wants to mess up God’s plans and take as many people to hell as he can. If he can steer people away from Christ, he can drag them to the lake of fire with him (that’s HIS destiny). Therefore, our job, second only to loving God with all our hearts, is to love our neighbors and help them to be saved, avoiding an eternity separated from God (Matthew 22:36-40).

This study, which is partially based on a book by Andrew Wommack ‘Discover the Keys to Staying Full of God’, is presented to help equip us in staying more connected with God and living with His presence stronger in our lives. His presence transforms us into powerful, fire-breathing, devil stomping, ministers of the Gospel (‘Gospel’ means the good news of salvation). The gates of hell cannot stand against the believer who is full of the Word of God and led by the Spirit of God!

In this study, we’ll start by looking at what it means to be in a place of honor, and how we can learn to honor and glorify God. We’ll see how the enemy tries to steal our joy, our victory and even our lives. And we’ll learn how to position ourselves to glorify Him and live in His power.

We were never destined for failure and weakness, rather we were made to be the triumphant church (2 Corinthians 2:14) and, as the apostle Paul wrote, ‘more than conquerors’ in Christ (Romans 8:37). So, let’s dig in and learn how to avoid common mistakes that lead us to give away our birthright, as coheirs of with Christ of this amazing, life-changing Salvation! Let’s get to it!

ABOUT FASTING

Fasting is a great discipline that Jesus, himself, instructed us to practice. Fasting means doing without something for a time.

The encyclopedia Britanica defines fasting as “abstinence from food or drink, or both, for health, ritualistic, religious, or ethical purposes.” Fasting is traditionally practiced for medical or health reasons, but also has been practiced in many religious rites. Fasting is often used in dieting and is often practiced preparing one for entering into a temple.

In our Biblical context, fasting is the temporary elimination or limiting (moderation) of food and/or liquids with the goal of becoming closer to God.

In our understanding, fasting is NOT intended to influence God or change His will, but rather to allow us to become more sensitive to His voice in prayer, thus allowing us to communicate more clearly with Him.

The flesh of a man tends to seek personal satisfaction. The apostle Paul teaches us to put down, or quiet, the flesh.

Galatians 5:17 reads: ‘For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.’

So we quiet the hunger pangs of ‘King Stomach’ as it’s been called, and we put the body under, listening to the voice of our spirit, and the voice of God.

MEDICAL CONCERNS AND ALTERNATIVES

Some of us have medical conditions that make it more difficult to fast. Your fast should be significant and challenging but should not put your health at risk. With that said, your body may scream at the beginning, and you may wonder how you’ll be able to work your job, but that’s temporary and should not limit your fast. Fasting is a supernatural process in which God gives us strength. Trust Him to help you fast. He wants you to hear Him more clearly, even more than you!

So, in practice, fasting can be anything that limits the distractions in our lives, including TV, sugar, social media, caffeine, sports, and hobbies. Whatever gets in your way with God needs to be put aside.

The goal of fasting is to draw more near to God, and Biblical fasting focuses on eliminating distractions for a spiritual purpose.

Chances are you will have to continue working during the fast. Continue to do everything with excellence and glorify Him. Try to be discreet and don’t tell people you’re fasting unless you can’t avoid it. Minimize it, as it’s simply between you and God, getting YOU into position to pray more effectively.

Spend some time every day praying, even if it’s in your car on your way somewhere. Keep the TV off, limit the music blasting in your ear, except perhaps Worship music. The more you focus on being spiritual, the more powerful the experience you can have with God.

There are some great references to fasting in the Bible, over 70 references. So, we see that this was a practice both in Old and New Testament times. It’s also practiced in the modern church.

In the Old Testament, we see the Israelites under Nehemiah fasting and praying. This is one of many references.

Nehemiah 9:1-3 (NKJV)

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with dust on their heads. Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.

Then in the New Testament, Jesus told His disciples that they would need to fast after He was gone.

Matthew 9:14-15 (NKJV)

Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast [a]often, but Your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the [b]friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

He also warned us how not to fast, religiously putting on a show for others.

Matthew 6:16-18 (NKJV)

“Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So, we have Biblical examples of fasting and praying. It’s a healthy practice that produces results on many levels.

Again, fasting does not seek to change the will of God. It does allow us to be more sensitive to hear His voice.

DAILY READINGS (Monday to Friday)

This prayer guide was created to help you prepare and pray in unity with the rest of us in IPF. Each evening (Tue to Fri) we will minister along these lines. Please try to read ahead during the days, so you’ll be more ready to receive what the Lord speaks to us during the united prayer time in the evenings.

The devotionals should help you know God more, stand in your position in Christ, resist the enemy and discover what the Lord wants to speak to you personally. So, slow down, dig in, and listen.

Day 1 Monday – in your own home

Rom. 1:21 (NKJV) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

DAY 1 – Monday January 22, 2024

Beloved, it is God's will that we live filled with his presence. Each of us has been created in the image and likeness of God himself (Genesis 1-2).

  • The reason Christ Jesus came to earth was to take our place on the cross and give us new life – His Life, God's life – and make us the righteousness of God in Him.
  • Before leaving, he told us that we would receive “The promise of the Father”, the Holy Spirit. He comes to live in us at the very moment of conversion when we confess the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
  • So now, every born-again son or daughter of God has the Holy Spirit. Its purpose is to guide us, teach us, encourage us, warn us and give us God's wisdom to live a powerful life.
  • But not everything is automatic. There is a process, called renewing the mind (Rom 12:1-2), learning to think and act like Christ. Too often we lose it and screw things up. It is never God's fault; it is our fault due to our ignorance and immaturity.

The good news is that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and overflowing with His presence! In his presence there is a fullness of joy and a power that manifests itself in salvation, prosperity, deliverance from demonic activities, healings, signs and wonders. That is God's plan for us.

The apostle Paul even encouraged us to be filled (Ephesians 5:18) And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit - literally "to be filled continually" or "to be being filled") with Him. We are 'containers of God’ and God wants to fill us more and more.

However, we must realize that we have an enemy, Satan, who is always trying to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and we are the target. This is not because we are so special, but because it is the only way he can hurt God and derail His plans. Satan wants to take as many people as he can to hell. Our job, in addition to loving God with all our hearts, is to love our neighbors and help them be saved, avoiding an eternity separated from God.

This study, based on Andrew Wommack's book 'Discover the Keys to Staying Full of God', is presented to equip us to stay more connected to God and live with His stronger presence in our lives. His presence transforms us into powerful ministers of the Gospel, who breathe fire and trample the devil ("Gospel" means the good news of salvation).

We will begin by looking at what it means to be in a place of honor and how we can learn to honor and glorify God. We will see how the enemy tries to steal our joy, our victory and even our life. And we will learn how to position ourselves to glorify Him and live in His power.

We were never destined for failure and weakness but were created to be the triumphant church (2 Corinthians 2:14) and, as the apostle Paul wrote, “more than conquerors” in Christ (Romans 8:37). So, let's dig deeper and learn how to avoid common mistakes that lead us to renounce our birthright, as joint heirs with Christ of this wonderful, life-changing Salvation!

Let's do this!

DAY 2 – Tuesday January 23, 2024 – in the church

“Permaneciendo Llenos de la Presencia de Dios”

THE PLACE OF HONOR

  1. When God touches your life, Satan immediately comes to steal that experience from you (Mark 4:15).
  2. The enemy does this when he is trying to force you to stop glorifying God as God.
  3. If you stop glorifying God as God—and stop glorifying what He has done in your life—then you will lose the manifestation of that revelation, blessing, healing, or whatever has been manifested.
  4. But if you do not stop glorifying God and what He has done in your life, you will never lose that manifestation—and instead it will increase.
  5. The Greek word used in Romans 1:21 to express the idea of ‘glorify’, which means to make or (esteem as) glorious.”
  6. ‘Esteem’ means to value, appreciate, or revere.
  7. When God does something in your life, you attribute a certain value to that something, but then Satan immediately attacks that value and competes for it.
  8. Satan tries to steal from you the importance you have attributed to the things of God.

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13

  1. You attribute a value to everything that happens in your life.
  2. If you value what God says, then you will have to devalue what others say.
  3. But when criticism and opposition come, will you keep what God has said and done, or will you begin to honor, appreciate, and value people's acceptance as much as, as, or more than God?
  4. No one else can establish the importance you attribute to something in your life—it's your decision.
  5. Even your love for your closest family members should pale in comparison to your love for Jesus Christ (See Luke 14:26 and Mt. 10:37).
  6. But compared to God and what He has done in your life, you should give Him so much value and importance that everything else should take a backseat.
  7. Compared to how you appreciate God, you should depreciate—decrease the value of anyone else and anything else.
  8. You truly cannot honor God and everything else at the same time.
  9. You must appreciate something and despise everything else.
  10. Jesus Christ despised the shame associated with his crucifixion.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1–2

  1. He considered everything else as unimportant compared to what God had said and done—even his own life (Phil. 2:5–8).
  2. Paul did the same (see Phil. 3:7–8).
  3. Paul had a different scale of values.
  4. In reality, he had a hard time deciding whether he should stay here or go to heaven.

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain … 23 For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. 24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.” Philippians 1:21, 23-24

  1. The reason you began to lose the revelation, the blessing and the benefit of what God has said and done, is because you have attributed value to many other things instead of attributing it to Him.
  2. These other things that are important to you are taking up your time, your energy, and your attention.
  3. Because of this, what the Lord has done in your life has diminished over time.
  4. It is not because God changed his attitude toward you and stopped meeting your needs. It is because you have allowed something else to take the place of honor in your life that was meant only for God.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rom. 1:21 (NKJV) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

DAY 3 – Wednesday January 24, 2024 – Hogar de

Olman y Ingrid, 1742 Livingstone St, Sarasota

WHAT DO YOU VALUE?

  1. The Greek word translated “honor” in Romans 11:13 is the same word translated “glorify” in Romans 1:21.

For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry. Romans 11:13

  1. So the words “honor” and “glorify” can be used interchangeably.
  2. To glorify God is to honor him.
  3. To honor is to magnify.
  4. Strictly speaking, you cannot influence either His size or His greatness. God is who He is, no matter what you think.
  5. However, in terms of your perception and experience of Him, you can magnify or diminish Him in your life.
  6. It all depends on how you think.
  7. Depending on what you choose and what you focus on, you can magnify God and minimize your problems—or vice versa.
  8. The sad truth is that most of us have become very skilled at magnifying the smallest and most insignificant things while minimizing God and His Word.
  9. What is bothering you today?
  10. The reason why so many people are emotionally disturbed today is because they have poorly prioritized values.
  11. You are the one who magnifies or minimizes everything that comes into your life.
  12. The way you magnify the Lord is by glorifying Him, praising Him, and thanking Him.
  13. Find someone in the Word who had a similar situation to yours and who succeeded.
  14. Meditate on this and make these things more real to you than what your bank account, your family, your friends, and even what your mind tells you.
  15. You have to reach the place in your heart where His Word is true, and the Lord is much bigger than the situation (2 Chron. 20:20–22).
  16. All Satan must do after the Lord acts in your life is put you in a situation where you compromise in one way or another.
  17. You have all the other things that are so important to you that you must defend them, so you distance yourself from God's revelation.
  18. Love, joy, peace, healing, anointing, the presence of God—or anything else is available to you, just as much as when you had a personal experience with Him.
  19. You can remember and renew those things in your life by glorifying God.
  20. God never stopped giving (transmitting). It was you who stopped grasping (Rom. 11:29).
  21. Receive by faith what the Lord has already provided by grace.
  22. In the darkest moment of David's life, he magnified God (1 Sam. 30:6). You can choose to get depressed, cry, scream and complain. Or you can choose to honor and glorify God.
  23. Sometimes you literally must put aside what is happening in your life and force yourself to focus on God.
  24. The reason some of us don't operate with more faith is that we haven't spent any time honoring God or verbally acknowledging that He is more important than our problems.
  25. Abraham… “was strengthened in faith, [how?] Giving glory to God Romans 4:20 (brackets added)
  26. When you honor and glorify Him, your faith intensifies, and everything is possible.

“all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23

  1. Your relationship with the Lord is the only thing that truly matters in your life.
  2. For that reason you must value it. Do it consistently and you will remain full of health, joy, peace, deliverance, anointing, power—and whatever else you need.
  3. You are the one who determines how full you are of these things. God is not the one who decides.
  4. True revival is simply you becoming so filled with God that you can in turn pour it out to someone else.

Rom. 1:21 (NKJV) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

DAY 4 – Thursday January 25, 2024

GRATITUDE GLORIFIES GOD

  1. We saw that one key to remaining filled with God is to “Glorify Him” and another key is to “Be Thankful.”

They didn't even thank him. Romans 1:21

  1. Glorifying, magnifying, and exalting God with thanksgiving are concepts that are interrelated and interwoven (Ps. 69:30).
  2. In order to glorify God you have to thank him.
  3. While you are thanking Him, you are reminding yourself of what He has said and done, and that exalts Him.
  4. As you think about the Lord in this way, He becomes more important and powerful in your life.
  5. Ingratitude is one of the plagues of our generation.

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy… traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Timothy 3:1–2, 4

  1. Being ungrateful is on the list immediately before being ungodly.
  2. These people do not remember or recognize the goodness of God.
  3. Being grateful implies memory and humility.
  4. You cannot be grateful without remembering the good things that have been done for you.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits. Psalm 103:2

  1. God commanded you not to forget because he knows you will if you don't make the decision to remember.
  2. Your memory is one of the most powerful faculties you have.
  3. If you couldn't remember, imagine what that would do to your life.
  4. What would it do to your marriage, your children, your job, and your church activities?
  5. You can't function without memory; and yet very few people remember the goodness of God.
  6. To keep the things of God in your life, you are going to have to be a VERY grateful person.
  7. You are going to have to remember and list your victories and the encounters you have had with Him.
  8. Motivate yourself to remember the times God has touched your life and you will never forget it.
  9. While you are looking at the Lord and your position with Him, you must also remember the quarry from which you came.

“Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug. Isaiah 51:1

  1. Are you glorifying, remembering, and giving thanks for what God has already done in your life?
  2. There is something very powerful about remembering, listing your victories and being grateful.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Rom. 1:21 (NKJV) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

DAY 5 – Friday January 26, 2024

SENSITIVE TO GOD

  1. You should be guided by your heart (spirit)—not by your brain.

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as [a]the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind. Ephesians 4:17

  1. The word “Gentile” here is referring to someone who was not a Jew. He was a person who was outside of God's covenant—today he would be a person who has not yet given his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. Life flows from your heart (Prov. 4:23).
  3. Most Christians are living as people who do not know God and wonder why they are getting the same results as them.
  4. If you think like an unsaved person thinks, you will get the results of an unsaved person. (Prov. 23:7).
  5. If you begin to think like a new creature in Christ, you will obtain spiritual results (Rom. 8:6 and 12:1–2).
  6. If you walk in the vanity of your mind, it obscures your understanding/imagination (Eph. 4:18).
  1. If you are living according to your natural mind—what you can see, taste, hear, smell and feel; and how you process that information with your knucklehead—you're going to greatly limit what God can do!
  2. When your heart becomes hard—cold, callous, unkind, and inflexible toward God—it continues to function, but it will automatically become sensitive to physical things, and to the things to which the flesh inclines.
  3. Worry, fear, disbelief, and anger come from the heart (Mark 7:21–22).

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. Matthew 15:19

  1. He is transmitting and speaking to you, but you do not listen to him because your heart is insensitive.
  2. Your heart becomes sensitive to whatever you give your attention to, and your heart becomes hardened toward whatever you neglect.
  3. If you glorify and thank God, your imagination will begin to see holy things instead of seeing the negative.
  4. If you don't want something to incubate in you, don't think about it.
  5. You cannot allow your imagination to follow a pattern of thought that is contrary to the Word of God.
  6. If you do all these things, you will discover that they will make your heart sensitive to God.
  7. It must be very important for you to be at peace.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you were also called in a single body; and be grateful. Colossians 3:15

  1. If something starts to make you anxious and bother you, immediately change what is happening in your life.
  2. If you don't know how to act peacefully, you will be stressed, and it won't matter what the situation is.
  3. But if you are truly in a bad situation that is robbing you of your peace, you have to change that situation.
  4. As a born-again believer, you have the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16).

…and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him Colossians 3:10

  1. He It is your human spirit—not your brain—that knows all things.

You have the anointing of the Holy One, and you know all things. 1 John 2:20

  1. We have this wonderful presence of God in our hearts, but most of us are not listening.
  2. If you don't get to the point of honestly being able to trust your heart (your spirit) more than your head, you will never become a successful Christian.

My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart Proverbs 4:20–21

Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you Psalm 119:11

For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep you heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life Proverbs 4:22–23.

  1. Life comes from your heart—not from your mind or external things.
  2. It takes time to meditate and give all the necessary care to your heart.

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

  1. You have to start spending time in the presence of God listening to your heart and paying attention to what the Lord tells you. Discerning things by the Holy Spirit.
